No one should have to sacrifice wearing their favorite rings due to swollen knuckles. Many men and women think their ring wearing days are over but luckily, there are ways to comfortably wear rings even if arthritis has affected the joints in your hands. It can be very frustrating to try to squeeze a ring over your knuckle only to have it spinning once it is over.
What Are Your Ring Wearing Options?
Permanent Ring Guard:
Shaped like a horseshoe, a spring insert is a strip of metal that lines the inside of your band. It will spring open slightly to allow the ring past your knuckle and then spring back to fit snugly at the base of your finger. This option is good for people experiencing only temporary or slight swelling of the joint.
Expandable Shank:
For a more permanent swollen knuckle, the expandable shank is a good solution. The goldsmith will remove the bottom half of the ring and attach a hinged piece that allows you to open a clasp on the base of the ring. When the clasp is open the ring can be pulled open to expand to go over the knuckle. Once over the knuckle, the ring is closed back to regular size and clasped shut.
Superfit Band:
This style of ring opens like a hinged bracelet and drops right onto the base of your finger. When the clasp is closed it is invisible, creating a very smooth surface. To open, one simply pushes into a small indent and the ring will pop open. Closing is an easy snap shut.
The bottom line is, At Vandenbergs there are always solutions to enable you to enjoy wearing your well loved or new rings! No need for an appointment, we will be happy to meet and discuss the best option for you.
